Overview

What You’ll Study in our Direct Support Professional Microcredentials

DCC offers a three-tiered Direct Support Professional (DSP) microcredential program that is fully funded thanks to a partnership with the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). DSPs work in a variety of settings-from daycare to eldercare, outpatient and residential treatment facilities, alternative correction programs, crisis centers and more-with a focus on assisting people with developmental disabilities. Geared toward those already working in the field who want to expand their skill set, the curriculum comprises nine courses over three semesters and aligns with the certification offered through the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP). All credits earned in the DSP program also “stack” to our Human Services certificate and degree programs.

Courses are fully covered by the OPWDD grant and can be taken online or in-person, with the majority of students opting for remote asynchronous classes. Tuition, books and fees are also supported by the grant, with additional assistance available to offset the cost of basic living expenses. Students receive dedicated academic coaching and tutoring and have access to loaner laptops. Upon successful completion of each of the three tiers, students are eligible to receive a $750 bonus.
