BHS 216 - The Sociology of Health and Medicine in the US Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 This course introduces the student to sociological phenomena as they relate to human health and diseases, mainly in the United States, but also with some consideration of health organizations, philosophy and delivery in the other areas of the world. Included in the course are comparative distributions of diseases among different population groups, individual responses, attitudes and beliefs toward health and illness, medical care providers and organizations, financing and delivery of health care, and the roles of social factors in the etiology and outcome of diseases.
