BHS 210 - The Sociology of Religion Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 The sociological interpretation of religion is the empirical study of religion as a social institution. Major issues in the analysis of religion include: the origins of religion; the functions of religion; the relation of religion and society; types of religious authority; liberation theology and contemporary world religious movements; women, race, and sex and religion; religion and social and cultural differentiation.
